The Vietnam MAB National Committee

This is a coordinating agency for national and international exchange amongst biosphere reserves and sister-systems of nature reserves, including research results, management methods or experiences in revolving specific issues. It facilitates cooperative activities in scientific research, monitoring, environmental education and training. Through these activities, it provides advice and recommendations to the Government on important issues concerning nature conservation and sustainable development.

 The Secretariat

The secretariat of The Vietnam MAB National Committee, as a permanent executive body, carries-out the following activities:

  • Coordinating activities concerning MAB's programs at national and international levels, including nominations of new biosphere reserves and establishment of biosphere reserve network;

  • Coordinating research projects on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in the related areas;

  • Serving as a nodal point to link UNESCO/MAB and other international channels;

  • Disseminating and exchanging information and publications on MAB activities.

Flexible Mechanism
 

The Vietnam MAB

National Committee is under Sub-Committee of Natural Science within the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO. Nomination forms for biosphere reserves is individually or collectively promoted and initiated by scientists and then approved by the MAB National Committee and the National Commission for UNESCO, after endorsements of local and central authorities. The Vietnam Delegation to UNESCO in Paris is actively encouraging these activities and supporting when necessary.
